Anxiety and Panic Attacks: I can’t go anywhere without someone accompanying me: Story of Melinda
When Melinda came in, her husband accompanied her.
“I can’t go anywhere alone now without being accompanied. I am so afraid of just having a panic attack in the middle of the street. As a result, I find it difficult to meet with people. It’s really paralyzing me so much that I can’t move forward in life. I have so much racing thoughts, fears and worries that it is even starting to disturb my sleep. I don’t want to start having suicidal thoughts. That’s why I am here.”
Melinda was diagnosed as having an anxiety disorder. She had seen a psychiatrist and was offered drugs to relieve the symptoms, but she was not told WHY she had this issue in the first place or even how to resolve it in a safe and natural manner. The drugs she was prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI). The psychiatrist already mentioned she would probably have to take them for the rest of her life. The drugs also gave her certain unwanted side effects. She felt “zoned out.”
She also considered cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), a branch of psychotherapy that worked with the thoughts underlying the behavior, but when she realized how many sessions she was likely to need with CBT sessions, she balked.
In fact, many people, like Melinda, believe anxiety and panic attacks are a result of their psychology, but based on our clinical experience, that is only partially true.
The more important element is usually due to some form of toxicity in the body and a form of bacterial infection known as Lyme (borrelia burgdorferi). People with this will find that they may get temporary relief if they work with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) or other complementary practitioners, but they relapse soon after and never see a permanent resolution. The reason is simple – these practitioners have not identified what is the true root cause of the anxiety and panic attacks and have not treated the toxicity and bacterial infection. In fact, this treating of root cause is the ONLY way that Melinda can get permanent relief!
We explained to Melinda after the testing what actually caused her anxiety and panic. It seemed to originate from traumatic incidents that had occurred to her maternal grandmother. Even though her grandmother was no longer around, the memory of those incidents were imprinted in Melinda and still affected her, causing her body to release stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline. That was also why people with anxiety disorders tended to have parents or siblings who had similar symptoms because those memories from ancestors were similarly imprinted in them.
The release of cortisol affected her body’s detoxification functions, especially as she had mercury amalgams in her teeth. Up to 50% of that amalgam was made up of mercury, which leaked into her body and accumulated over time. Neurotoxins like mercury and lead are often found in people with anxiety and panic disorders and amalgams are actually the major source for this toxicity.
Cortisol also weakened her gut functions, leading to a condition known as “leaky gut syndrome”. Many practitioners now linked all mental conditions to the leaky gut and called this the “gut-brain connection”.
As cortisol was constantly being produced, it led to the adrenals and thyroid weakening over time. Cortisol was also important for the body to be able to utilize the thyroid hormone. As the body started to under produce cortisol due to exhaustion of the adrenals, mental conditions like depression, anxiety and panic set in, as the cells couldn’t use the thyroid hormone critical in regulating mood. Weakness in the thyroid also caused heart palpitations and breathlessness, the exact symptoms found in panic!
After 3 sessions over 3 months with Melinda, this was what she reported:
I was having panic attacks 6 – 8 times a month when I came to see Darius. During the panic attacks, I would feel nervous, my heart will race and I grew so afraid of having panic attacks that I have to be accompanied everywhere by someone to feel safe. I saw Darius a total of 3 times, once every month. After the first time I saw him, my panic attacks decreased to 2 – 4 times a month. After the second time I saw him, it further reduced to 1 – 2 times a month. After the 3rd session, Darius mentioned that I probably do not need to see him again as all I needed to do at this point in time is to clear off the yeast in my body system. The interesting thing was that Darius talking about yeast wasn’t new to me. A few months ago, I have seen a doctor in a national skin care centre that has also pinpoint yeast as the source of my skin problems. So there seem to be a correspondence in what they have discovered. Even though I was given some antifungal drugs, I hesitate to take it because what the dermatologist said is that the yeast can never be fully cleared from the system and it will keep recurring. Darius gives another viewpoint. He believes that the yeast is only there because there are still toxins in the system and now that the toxins have been removed, the yeast can probably be cleared from the system permanently. Based on Darius’s estimates, it will take a further 4 months for the body to heal itself after the yeast is gone. I am looking forward to more positive changes! For those who are still hesitating whether to see him, I would say, go ahead, you won’t be disappointed.
